– 13th October 2013 :Vice-Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open
University(AIOU), Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi said here on Sunday that they
have developed a fool-proof arrangement to ensure transparency in the
University’s examination and admission system and to provide best possible
services to the students.
While
commenting on a news item relating to admission of a student, he said the
University is handling nearly 1.4 million students on yearly basis and it takes
all possible steps to ensure error-free examination and admission process.
However, some act of omission or commission may takes place in a particular
case that could be rectified if it is timely brought to their notice.
Dr.
Sangi said he and the members of his team minutely supervised the University’s
services relating to the students. Various steps have been taken in the recent
years to further tighten the University’s working for properly handling the students’
affairs including timely announcement of results and dispatching of study
material/books to the students.
Strict
action has been taken against those officials involved in corrupt practices. It
was ensured that officials of the university should not dare to cheat the
students or damage their interest in any manner whatsoever.
He
said that it is also a duty of the students to bring to their notice if there
any omission and commission takes place. Sometime problems cannot be addressed
properly simply because of time-bar. The
University follows the rules and regulations regarding students’ attendance of
workshops and submission of assignments that are basic the requirements of open
learning system.
Referring
to the news item, the Vice-Chancellor further said that he himself took notice
of the matter and formed a committee to find-out the facts. It is not fair on a
part of the students to make hue and cry through media, particularly when he
himself responsible for not bringing the complaint into the notice of the competent
authority within due time.
The
Vice-Chancellor further said that the students’ interest has already been his
priority and he had been taking all possible steps to further improve the
services for the students and resolve their genuine complaints.
Recently,
the University has launched ten schemes for the welfare of the poor and needy
students including ‘Earn to Learn’ scheme, that enable them to meet their fee
requirements for continuation of their study. He said more than Rs. ten million
have been allocated in the students’ support fund.
He
said focus has also been laid on quality of education and it has been regular
process improving the existing syllabus and upgrade research and study system. “We
wish to provide education of international standard to our students. Our
courses are also being designed in a manner, so that their students could able
to meet their livelihood and take part in socio-economic development of the
country.
