NADRA to facilitate AIOU’s students on fee collection and registration using Smart Cards

ISLAMABAD, August 23: NADRA will facilitate about 1.3 million students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on data-management and financial transaction in their educational pursuits.
An understanding to this effect was reached at a meeting held here on Friday between Chairman Nadra Muhammad Tariq Malik and Vice-Chancellor AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi.
 It was agreed in principle that bilateral cooperation between the two sides for facilitating the students will be started forthwith and a team of Nadra will undertake analysis process of the available data. This exercise will be completed within a period of two weeks.
The two sides will sign formal memorandum of understanding to finalize the details for implementation of the proposed project on fast-track basis.
While extending full support to AIOU for students’ academic data and financial-data management, Tariq Malik said they could immediately start issuing special ‘smart cards’ to AIOU’s students through their 572 offices across the country.
These cards will help the students for online communication with the university on matters relating to the deposit fee, examination and issuance of degrees. The smart cards will be issued to students on subsidized rate.
He  appreciated that the AIOU has emerged as one of the biggest Universities in Asia in term of students’ enrolment and they wished to work together for promoting mass education.
Dr. Nazir Sangi briefed the chairman Nadra about the existing facilities, being extended to the students, through various schemes like ‘earn-to-learn’, educate-a-child and students’ support fund programme. He said the AIOU is in process of strengthening technology and electronic-based education system to ensure accessibility of quality education in every nook and corner of the country.
 “Pakistan needs an Education Emergency, and NADRA will walk an extra mile to help those institutions who walk the talk of emergency,” said Tariq Malik.
 Bo the sides agreed to cooperate for students’ fee collection and other financial transaction.
The AIOU’s controller exam Hamid Khan Niazi, Dean Social sciences Dr. Rashid. A Naeem and Treasure Sulman Saleem and Deputy Treasure Ghulam Dastgir and Senior Officials of NADRA were also present during the meeting.
