VC AIOU visits world famous Lab in New Jersey

ISLAMABAD, Oct.28: Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi visited the world famous, Bell Laboratories at Murray Hill, New Jersey and discussed with the lab’s officials about the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in research work in field of science and technology.
The Bell Lab is world's premier Research & Development institution with 13 the Nobel Prize recipients - the most of any institution in the world. He was given an official Bell Labs Showcase tour by a senior member of Technical Staff Dr. Carl Nuzman. He was briefed about various research and development activities and laboratories, says a message received here Monday. 
Dr. Sangi who is currently in the United States on the invitation of American Institute of Pakistan Studies was shown some most famous scientific inventions including the original telephone, first transistor, Telstar Satellite, Fiber Optic Cables and Laser, motion video which were all invented in Ball Labs.
He also visited the historic offices of Dr. Dennis Ritchie and Dr. Ken Thomson who invented Unix, C and C++ Languages as well as the Lab where the transistor was invented.
He met the scientists and engineers of the Lab and discussed with them the available avenues of bilateral cooperation and sharing of experience and expertise in the development of Laboratories in Pakistan. Muslim scientists at Bell Labs hosted a lunch in his honor
Dr. Nazir Sangi also visited the famous educational institution, the Baytul Iman Academy in the city and delivered a community Lecture on "Educating the Muslim World: Challenges and Solutions", The Baytul-Iman Academy enjoys high reputation whose students have won several trophies in New Jersey Science Olympiads. This event was jointly organized by Baytul-Iman Academy and The Citizens Foundation which is running over 900 non-profit schools in Pakistan.
The audience was enthralled by the vision of Dr. Sangi and the extra-ordinary progress made by AIOU during his tenure. A question-answer session ensued after the lecture. The representative of the City Foundation Dr. Ahmed Naji proposed that their school facilities could be utilized after school hours (afternoon and evening) by AIOU while AIOU techniques and processes can be used by the foundation.  
The Mayor of Hazlet Township - Mr. Joe Belasco also called on the Vice Chancellor and conveyed his best wishes and cooperation in the development of education sector. A local business leader Capt. Mohammed Tahir assured using personal influence in seeking USAID’s support for the university’s development projects
During his stay in US, Dr. Sangi also visited Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, and the largest in the State.  He gave a lecture on "Economics of Mass Education. His lecture was much appreciated and met with spontaneous applause.  The audience especially appreciated the efforts for promotion of education in the country’s remote and less-developed regions.  
He was welcomed by students and the staff and presented flowers and a plaque for his valuable contributions in the field of education. He also addressed the students and staff on the importance of Education in Islam. He briefed them about teaching technique and education models adopted at the AIOU.  
Dr. Sangi also visited Wisconsin University and addressed where he addressed the South Asia Conference, highlighting the AIOU’s role in promoting distance learning system in the region.
