AIOU’s
‘Science for the Society Club’ to be launched today

4th December 2013 Science for the Society
Club of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will be formally launched today
(Thursday December 5) for encouraging youth to develop new scientific devices
to meet the country’s socio-economic needs and overcome issues like energy
crisis.
Prof.
Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi, Vice-Chancellor, AIOU will be the Chief Guest at the launching
ceremony while President Chamber of Commerce Rawalpindi/Islamabad and other
signatories will be the guests of honour.
Science
for the Society Club will involve youth for promotion of Science and Technology
in the country. In addition to the AIOU’s students, the club’s facilities will
be available across the board, for other students as well. Prof. Dr. Naghmana Rashid, Chairperson, Department
of Chemistry , AIOU has already been assigned the task to supervise the club,
as its President.
Under
the scheme, the students of AIOU and other educational institutions will be
invited to give their projects that could be useful for resolving issues, being
faced by the under-privilege sections of the people particularly those living in
the rural areas. The idea was initiated by the vice chancellor in order to apply
scientific development in the country’s overall development. The AIOU will
provide necessary academic and financial support to the youth to undertake the
task.
