Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Federal Minister for Industries and Production has said that the new Auto Industries Development Policy (AIDP) will be presented to the Cabinet for approval in coming November which will set direction for the auto manufacturers in the country. He said that the long wait of the auto sector for a clear vision from the Government will soon be over and they will invest in Pakistan with renewed confidence. He was talking to a delegation of the Toyata Motors lead by Mr. K. Tanada, President Toyota Motor Corporation Asia Pacific.
The Minister said that the Government envisages a long-term and consistent policy for automobile sector which will boost the confidence of the investors and will encourage manufacturing in the country. He was of the view that no action plan can become fruitful unless all stake holders are taken on board and their reservations are taken care of. Therefore, before the finalization of AIDP ll, all the stake holders will be consulted once again and their positive proposals which would be beneficial for the industry, consumers and the Government will be incorporated in the final draft. He said that the basic aim of the Government is to provide an investment-friendly atmosphere in the country and the investment will pour-in automatically. He claimed that the policies that the current Government is introducing will make Pakistan the most suitable country of the region for foreign investment. Mr. Jatoi said that auto industry should introduce new and cheap variants in the market to cater to the needs of growing middle class. He also stressed the need to introduce vehicles which are environment-friendly and consume less fuel to cope up with the energy deficiency in the country.

Mr. K. Tanada said that the philosophy of his company is to contribute not only to the economy but also to the society of the country in which it has a manufacturing unit. Every year Toyota offers technical training courses to the Pakistani human resource in car engineering which is enhancing the professional capabilities of the work force of Pakistan. He further said that Toyota is also planning to invest in the auto vendor industry in Pakistan.
