USAID Power Distribution Program joins hands with ACCA Pakistan

Islamabad, 9 September 2013: Through partnerships with over 8,500 employers across the world, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) seeks to formally recognise and reward leading organisations that offer continual learning and development support to ACCA trainees. Following this lead, ACCA Pakistan recently awarded the USAID Power Distribution Program with platinum approved employer status.The USAID Power Distribution Programworks jointly with government-owned power distribution companies (DISCOs) in Pakistan to improve their performance througha reduction in losses, and improvement in both revenues and customer services. Through this program, the United States Government provides assistance and support to the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to reform the power sector to end the current energy shortfall.

The ACCA-approved employer program will assist the USAID Power Distribution Program in aligning workforce training and professional development, ensuring that ACCA trainees and members continue to acquire the learning needed to do their jobs to the highest standard whilst upholding the ethical standards expected from an ACCA professional.

The approved employer certificate was presented to Craig R. VanDevelde, Chief of Party, USAID Power Distribution Programby Arif Masud Mirza, head of ACCA Pakistan. “USAID Power Distribution Program is working in all nine government owned DISCOs of Pakistan. Our key emphasis is to improve governance and human resource practices. We are working together with DISCOs to introduce a performance-based system in Human Resources, besides our achievements in finance in introducing updated internal audit and accounting manuals in DISCOs,” remarked Craig VanDevelde, Chief of Party of the USAID Power Distribution on the occasion.“Through collaboration with ACCA, we aim to provide quality human resource in Finance & Audit departments of government-owned power distribution companies (DISCOs). This will ensure continuous improvement in these areas and at the same time motivate young professionals to serve these DISCOs which need them the most at this time of energy crisis. ”

Commenting on the support ACCA will extend to the USAID Power Distribution Program, Mr.Mirza stressed, “ACCA produces accounting professionals that have both technical and business acumen, who are able to meet the resource needs of both public and private sector organisations. We are immensely pleased to join hands with the USAID Power Distribution Programfor recruiting a talented pool of ACCA students, trainees and members. Further, we see the USAID Power Distribution Programas a key partner in coaching and forming the future finance leaders of our profession.”
